Time Dancers
2012
Commission for Auckland University of Technology, Science and Engineering Building foyer
Welded steel, cast resin, screen-printed acrylic plastic and copper sheet, stained-glass lead framing, electric motors / reduction gearbox, fibre-optic lighting, Kauri veneer, CNC-machined shaft / boss / bearings arrangements
This installation ponders the relationship that we have with Time. It appears in the foyer on both sides with differing themes: our traditional referencing to time patterns / sequencing / events as we respond to seasons and the environment, and the other side looks at our interest in larger issues of the universe, cosmology and future events. Pendulum and metranome figures mix to allude to our being both 'in time' and trying to control it.
