Here is a suggestion that a cat thinks about gifting to the owner / master. An instinct to provide perhaps, but it also alludes to the fact that the cat is already fed and doesn’t need to hunt to survive. The bird is not eaten in any way, just dead – it’s fragility and endangerment, shown in its upside-down position. The mat alludes to the offering placement as being on the cusp between the human and creature worlds.  This action by felines is commonly known and unquestioningly accepted by cat owners. The bird’s eye seems to be both dead and balefully accusatory, as is the bird in Serving.
